The Importance Of First Aid And CPR

First aid and CPR are two skills which are closely related and could both be classified as life saving skills. One little known fact about these two skill is that absolutely everyone can learn them regardless of age. One of the most important things to note about CPR is it helps to restart the heart for someone who has collapsed and heart has stopped.

What Is First Aid?

First aid is a skill which can be taught and can cover a variety of different scenarios and techniques. First aid commonly covers a number of basic injuries as well as techniques on how to tie a bandage , a sling , plaster and more. Additionally most people undertaking first aid lessons or a first aid course will be taught how to put someone into the recovery position.  First aid is often a requirement for certain roles and professions such as a lifeguard or a manager within a store.

Thankfully increasing awareness around first aid and its benefits is leading to increasing numbers of people across the UK getting involved in first aid activities and going to free events where they can learn more about first aid and its benefits overall. The more people that are trained in first aid across the UK, the better chance people have of being helped after being involved in a medical emergency.

Why Are People Hesitant To Do First Aid

A common problem that is encountered is that people are hesitant to do first aid. This is because they believe that anyone that is getting involved in a medical emergency needs to be medically trained or have significant experience. This is not the case and anyone can learn first aid or help in a medical emergency with even the most basic first aid skills.  Even if someone does not have the skills or expertise to provide first aid providing some form of reassurance to someone who is injured or Ill is always a help in a medical situation/emergency.

What Is CPR And Why Is It Important?

CPR or cardio pulmonary resuscitation is the process of attempting to restart someone heart through chest compressions. This is a form of immediate life support and is only performed on people who no longer have a pulse and are not breathing anymore. CPR can prove to be the difference between life and death as early intervention and CPR can increase the chances of someone being revived by over 50%

CPR like first can be taught within a matter of minutes and to any age group anyone from children to the elderly can perform CPR and it can make the difference between someone living or dying. Essentially CPR is way of stimulating the heart to try and get it back into a rhythm. This is normally done with the help of a defibrillation that administers an electric shock to try and ensure that the heart is beating again.

CPR is an essential skill that can be used in an emergency scenario in order to save somebody’s life.
